Application Performance Monitoring in the Cloud

If you’re reading this blog it means there is a good chance that you have some sort of application performance monitoring in place or are giving close consideration to enhancing, augmenting or even changing out. The adoption of cloud computing certainly has given IT some cause for concern as IT organizations now are subject to more potentials outages due to elements beyond their control. APM has been around in some form for many years; the nature of the technology has evolved through various phases, from the old days of “time-sharing”, to client/server computing, to the cloud.

Longitude 6.3 is due to be released in a few months - it will include the following features:

  • New Application:
    • NetFlow - Graphs of NetFlow metrics
  • Enhanced applications:
    • Internet - support for Firefox 3.6 and Selenium IDE 1.06
    • NetworkDevice - enhanced version of the previous Cisco application
    • Oracle - additional v$sysstat metrics collected and reported on
    • VMWare - supports VSphere and ESX 4.0
    • Windows - network metrics in KB instead of packets
  • Web UI Improvements:
