Upgrade Path from version 5 to 7

Just wondering what the update path from version to 5 to 7 would be? Just a little behind and trying to catch up. Thank you.

What changed in Longitude 6.2.1?

The following updates are included in Longitude 6.2.1:

  • Installation
    • Streamlined installation
    • Enhanced welcome page with additional web resource links
    • Support for 64 bit Management console and agent installations
    • Documented MAXDB reserved words not to be used for initial Longitude account
  •

  • Web UI

Longitude Versions and Upgrades

Longitude upgrades are not cumulative - that is, if you're at Longitude 5.0, and you want to upgrade to 6.1, you need to run incremental upgrades from 5.0 -> 5.1, 5.1 -> 6.0, and 6.0 -> 6.1. The upgrade instructions are posted at the community and in the Longitude help.

For Longitude agent installs, if feasible, it's faster to uninstall the older agent, and just do a clean install of the most recent Longitude version.

How do I upgrade Longitude?

Heroix recommends contacting support before upgrading Longitude. Please post a note in the Community under Forums --> Support --> Ask the Community before upgrading Longitude, and Heroix support will contact you.

The following is an overview of the upgrade process:

  1. Check if your license allows upgrades

Increase maximum memory for the Upgrade Manager before an upgrade

To prevent "out of memory" issues during an upgrade, you can increase the maximum amount of memory the Upgrade Manager is allowed to use. This is done by modifying the Longitude\ApplicationManagerMain.lax file. Edit the file to add in or modify the line in bold below, between the LAX.NL.JAVA.LAUNCHER.MAIN.METHOD and the LAX.NL.VALID.VM.LIST sections. After the edit, please restart the Upgrade Manager service.

kb102: Manual upgrade of Longitude

If you would like to upgrade your Longitude Server, but you cannot download the upgrade patch (e.g. because the Longitude Server does not have access to the Internet, or a proxy server is preventing the download), you need to download the patch manually to the \Longitude\appman\download folder on the Longitude server, and then configure the Download URL to be the file path to the download directory, preceded by the word: "File:". For example:

For Management Console patches:
File:c:\Program Files\Longitude\appman\download\patch.jar

For Agent patches:

kb57: Notification for available upgrade

When there is a Longitude upgrade available, Heroix will send a notification e-mail with the details of the update to the contact on file for your company.

You can also check the New Patch field in the Manage Upgrades function to see if an update is available. If you are not set up to upgrade automatically (the default), a New Patch number that is different from the Current Patch number indicates that there are upgrades available to you. The Upgrade Patch Description field includes notes about the changes that the patch includes.

kb41: SLA reports are not displayed correctly in 5.1

After an upgrade to Longitude 5.1, SLA reports do not contain detail data. The SLA dashboard works correctly, but the reports are missing data.

Please contact Heroix Support for the fix (reference case 3114), or upgrade to the latest Longitude release.
