kb71: Monitoring Network Devices other than Cisco routers

By csmith - Posted on 16 November 2009

The Longitude Cisco solution was designed to monitor routers using the core RFC1213 MIB. Whether or not the Cisco solution can monitor other devices depends on the SNMP objects that can be collected from the devices.

In general, switches do not populate all the MIB OID's, but they populate the important ifInterface table, which holds all the port traffic and bandwidth statistics.

In cases where the Cisco solution does not monitor a particular device, it can be monitored with a custom SNMP solution created in Longitude SNMP Solution Studio. For details see SNMP Solution Studio in the Help Contents.
