kb68: How to disable collections
If a collection is failing, but you don't care about the collection and don't want it to affect the color of the computer's application icon on the Manage Monitoring page, you can disable the collection. If the collection is marked as optional in the collection list of the application, you can disable it as follows:
- In Manage Monitoring, click on the application icon for the computer
- Click the Modify button for the collection that you want to disable
- Uncheck the Enabled box
- Click the Save Changes button
If the collection is not optional you must make it optional before you can disable it. Note that when you click on the triangular application icon, the collections that are optional will have (optional) next to them.
You can make a collection optional as follows:
- Navigate to the Longitude\applications directory on the Statistics Server that is performing the collection.
- Navigate to the collections subdirectory for the application including the collection (e.g. Windows).
- Open the xml file corresponding to the collection in a text editor (e.g. Windows_Printer.xml)
- Change Optional=no to Optional=yes and save the change.
- Restart the Web UI and Statistics Server components (if you are using a remote Statistics Server to monitor the computer, restart the remote Statistics Server) using the Start-up/Shutdown function (Home >> Administration >> Component Management >> Start-up/Shutdown). Note that the application icons on the Manage Monitoring page temporarily will have a red exclamation point after restarting the Statistics Server.
- In the Manage Monitoring function, click on the triangular application icon for the computer, click the Modify button for the collection that you want to disable, uncheck the Enabled box, and click the Save Changes button.
