kb62: Collections inactivated due to timeout errors

By Chris - Heroix - Posted on 16 November 2009

A collection is inactivated with a recommendation to increase the OperationTimeoutSeconds, as in the following error:

Failed to collect: Command 'iostat -d -x 1 2' is not returning promptly
on device DeviceName using access protocol ssh: ;Retry the
request or increase the value of OperationTimeoutSeconds
Collection disabled at: 2006-04-03 14:20
Collection went inactive at: 2006-04-03 14:20

If the problem persists, you can increase the OperationTimeoutSeconds, as follows:

  1. In the Web UI go to Home >> Administration >> Component Management >> Manage Longitude Properties.
  2. Select the Statistics Server, click the Advanced button, increase the OperationTimeoutSeconds value (and if this is a problem for WMI collections, the WMICollectionTimeout value), and click the Save Changes button.
  3. Select the Consolidator, click the Advanced button, increase the TcpTimeoutSeconds so that it is 20 seconds more than the Statistics Server's OperationTimeoutSeconds value, and click the Save Changes button.
  4. Go to Home >> Administration >> Component Management >> Start-up/Shutdown and restart the Statistics Server.
