kb56: Web UI becomes slow due to full database

By Alison - Heroix - Posted on 03 November 2009

The Web UI can slow down if the database fills up. The Longitude Upgrade Manager automatically allocates more storage space to a database that is over 80% full or has less than 100Mb of free space, but if the database fills up despite this, the Web UI will be very slow. To check how much space is left in the database and allocate more, if necessary:

  1. Start up SAP DB WWW
On Windows, this process is started by starting the SAP DB WWW service.
On Linux, this process is started by switching to the Longitude/bin directory and executing:
    ./firenze_sapdbWebAdm start
  2. Access the SAP Web DBM interface at http://host:7230/webdbm, where host is the name of the Longitude Management Station. Enter
    • the name of the Longitude server as server name
    • fzedb1 as the database name
    • dbm as the username
    • the password for the first Heroix Longitude Web UI user created during the Longitude install.

    ***Note:
If you later change the password for the default Longitude user in the Longitude Web UI, this will not change the password of the SAP database user, so you will still need to specify the password that you entered during the installation of Longitude when you access the SAP interfaces, even if you now use a different password when logging into the Longitude Web UI.

  3. If the Data bar at the top of the interface is near 100%, add a data volume, as described below.
  4. From the SAP DBM interface, click the Volumes title beneath the Configuration menu (Configuration is the bottom of the six menus on the left side of the screen).
  5. Click the Add Data Volume button and specify a size in 8k pages. For example, a size of 35000 is about 500 Mb.
  6. Click OK and the database will extend itself by that many pages using the same storage directory to which it was initially installed.
