kb46: Alerts about Longitude task and component problems

By Alison - Heroix - Posted on 03 November 2009

Longitude will send an e-mail about task and component failures to the MailToForLongitudeProblems address. By default, this is the address entered during Longitude installation, but it can be changed in Administration >> Component Management >> Manage Longitude Properties >> [Consolidator,Rule Engine,Web UI,Upgrade Manager] >> ADVANCED.

Component Failure messages
If you receive an email about a component failure, please do the following:

  • Go to Administration >> Component Management >> Display Status >> {Component} to check the state of the component
  • If the component is not running, restart the component from the services applet on the server hosting the component
  • If you are unable to restart the component, or if the component stops again, please post the details in Ask the Community. Attach or paste the startup log for the component experiencing the problem - the log can be accessed from Administration >> Diagnostics >> Display Logs >> {Component} - the startup log name will end with "_startup.txt"

Task Failure messages

Task failures are usually intermittent errors due to the RuleEngine component not being able to query the database. One task failure message generally does not indicate a significant problem.

If you receive repeated task failure messages - several times per day for the same task, or errors from the same Maintenance task for several consecutive days, please post the details of the errors in Ask the Community.

If possible, attach the task logs to the post with the task failure details. The task logs can be found in Administration >> Diagnostics >> Display Logs >> Rule Engine, or on the Longitude computer in the Longitude\engine\log directory. The naming convention for the logs is {Date}_task_{TaskName}_##.txt - please only post the logs from the days the task experienced errors.
