kb228: Longitude Management Console minimum installation requirements

The following minimum requirements are recommended for a Longitude Management Console install:

• Windows 2003 Server or Windows 2008 Server, 32 or 64 bit
• 2.4GHz P4 or Xeon processor
• 2GB Main memory
• 5 GB free disk space for the Longitude installation binaries
• 10 GB free disk for 100 managed devices/year.
• 100mb Ethernet Adapter

****Note:
Hardware requirements vary based on the number of computers that Longitude will be monitoring. To monitor larger numbers of managed devices (>250), we recommend:

1. Use an agent to collect statistics in order to reduce the load on the Management Console
2. At least a dual processor for any agent or Management Console collecting data for >100 managed devices.
3. For better performance, install the database on a separate drive from the Longitude installation. To determine how much disk space will be allocated for the database during installation, see Selecting Number Of Machines During Installation.
4. RAID 1 or higher is recommended to protect against data loss and to promote high availability.
5. UPS is recommended for the Management Console
6. VMWare virtual machines are supported for the Management Console and agent providing they meet the specified minimum requirements
