Heroix recommends contacting support before upgrading Longitude. Please post a note in the Community under Forums --> Support --> Ask the Community before upgrading Longitude, and Heroix support will contact you.

The following is an overview of the upgrade process:

  1. Check if your license allows upgrades

In the Management Console, go to Administration --> Licensing --> Display License - in the Web UI Functions section, check the Availability for "Upgrade" - if it's marked as enabled, you'll be able to upgrade Longitude.

  2. Make sure you have a backup of your Longitude installation

The instructions for configuring backups are available both in the Longitude community, and in the Longitude Management Console help. Even if you're using another utility to backup files on the Longitude server, please also run a backup using the Longitude backup utilities, since this will also include a database backup.

If you've configured backups, an email will be sent to the user specified in Administration --> Component Management --> Manage Longitude Properties --> Web UI --> ADVANCED --> MailToForLongitudeProperties with the status of the backup when it has completed.

  3. Configure the download URL to download the next Longitude upgrade patch

Go to Administration --> Component Management --> Manage Upgrades --> MODIFY PROPERTIES -
for the Upgrade Server value, use one of the following:

If you have any Longitude agents, modify the upgrade URL for the agents as well.

As long as the Longitude Management Console and Agents can connect to the upgrade server at Heroix, the patches will download overnight. If something prevents the connection, you can download the patches from the Heroix ftp site and run a manual upgrade. Post a note in the Community under Forums --> Support --> Ask the Community for instructions on downloading the patch via ftp.

  4. Increase the amount of memory used by the Upgrade Manager on the Longitude Management Console.
  5. Upgrade the Longitude agents (if you have any), and then the Longitude Management console

Once the patch has been downloaded, Administration --> Component Management --> Manage Upgrades will display the New Patch version, and a UPGRADE COMPONENTS button. Modify the agents first, and then the Management Console.

  6. Wait for the upgrade status email

When the upgrade has completed, an email will be sent with either a failed or a succeeded status. For the Management Console, the email will go to the address associated with the account that triggered the upgrade. For the agent installs, the email will go to the address provided when the agent was installed.

  7. If the upgrade fails.....
    1. Backup the files in Longitude\appman\logs - we will probably need these for troubleshooting what went wrong, and when you uninstall the failed upgrade, they will be deleted.
    2. Restore from that backup you made in step #2. Uninstall the failed upgrade, and then use the instructions for either Migrating settings to a new Longitude server for Longitude versions 5.0, 5.1 and 6.0 or Migrating settings to a new Longitude server for Longitude version 6.1 to restore from backup.
    3. Post a note in the Community under Forums --> Support --> Ask the Community - Heroix Support will start working on the issue from there.
