What new functionality would you like to see in Longitude?
Send Heroix suggestions for new features and applications.
I would like a way to announce an Alert with an audible sound, and not from the server hosting Longitude, but from a workstation viewing the Event Monitor in the webui.
K.
I'm guessing that dkarl (and other ex-Robomen) would really like this suggestion by K, too.
If you have Microsoft Outlook 2003 you can configure a rule to notify you by sound based on the criteria such as sender.
Would like to have the ability to drill in multiple levels from the dashboards.
Would like to be able to easily customize the icons using a selection tool like the import of backgrounds provides.
Would like to have control over names of devices as aliases.
Would like to see an updated world map that has only time zone lines, with the gmt at the bottom
My company purchased Longitude with high hopes. At the time we were using WebLogic version 9.2 and expected that version would soon be supported. We are now using version 10.3, and our hopes are dwindling. We are currently unable to use Longitude for our needs.
Longitude ver 6.1.2 (build 337) can't collect memory stats for vmware Esx 4 (vsphere). Is this supported in the new Longitude version?
Vmware Esx 4 is not supported in our latest release of 6.2.1, but is planned for the next release.
Since our company has a standard naming scheme for servers, it would be nice to be able to have Longitude populate some views based on server names.
I Will submit an enhancement request so that ManagedDevice can be one of the options for a view.
Longitude reports things like disk space as 2.59% free but we are unable to adjust the thresholds to anything other than whole values. Would like to see the option to adjust in fractions.
The disk space percentage thresholds are set to floats, and if you tailor them directly from Manage Monitoring >> Manage Rules, you can use more than one point of precision in the threshold. However, if you tailor the value through the Event Monitor, it will only allow you to use one decimal point (e.g. 2.6, but not 2.59).
I've submitted a bug report on this - if you're seeing this error somewhere other than the Event Monitor, or it won't let you use more than one decimal point in Manage Rules, please send an update.

Just heard back from the developers - they've checked the fix for this in to the next version of Longitude.
We would like the ability to define the severity of a particular transaction. Currently, all transactions fail with a severity of critical.
I've submitted and enhancement request for this. Were you thinking of setting up separate alerts by transaction (e.g. all pings are critical, all ssh connects are major), or setting up the severity as a property of the transaction configuration?
You can currently create a correlated event based on incoming transaction events, and set the severity for the correlated event to whatever severity you would like.

We need a mobile UI so we can access the portal from our Blackberry devices to suspend notification, etc.
Thanks for Your Suggestion. I have submitted an enhancement request but I would like to know what you want to see on your Blackberry (Manage Monitoring, Event Monitor, etc..).
Right now we can't get past the logon page when we try to access the heroix ui via blackberry. I'd like to be able to do most things via bb including view dashboards if possible. Opensource Webmin (a web-based interface for system administration of servers) is a good example of something we use that offers this functionality. They offer a mobile device theme, when installed you have access via bb to anything/everything that you can access via a full browser. Thanks
Currently we do not have a supported interface on mobile devices. This is currently being worked on and should be in one of future releases for blackberries with touch screens.
Thanks for the info. This is great news.
What I would like to see as an added feature is to enable rights on a domain basis.
We are trying to offer the service to multiple other groups internally and are having issues setting permissions since we cannot set permissions granularly.
I would like to be able to give a user admin privileges that lets him add/delete machines but only in a certain domain.
This would let us be able to offer monitoring services to multiple teams in our business.
Thank you for your Suggestion. This will be considered in a future release.
It would be nice to have a wizard that helps setting up the monitoring of a new server and the actions that should be taken in case of a detected problem.
Thank you for your suggestion I have submitted an enhancement request and this will be considered for a future release.
Currently devices are named either by IP or DNS name. This is too restrictive. Not all items have DNS entries and the IP may not be descriptive enough. Need the ability to custom name and item added to monitoring
You can add entries to the host file on the Management Console, and, if you're using a remote agent, to that computer as well. That would let you circumvent DNS and provide whatever names you prefer.
Yes that is true but it makes sense to have the ability to modify the names from within Heroix. Adding a hosts file would require a published document on how to modify these values. With a Service Desk staff that is allready over tasked........
Would be nice to be able to easily import additional icons for dashboards. Understand each would need to have a red, orange, yellow and green version but we have created these for use and would like the capability to import and select from the dropdown when updating images
We've already had an enhancement request to allow customization for the icons in the views - I'll add another one in to customize the icons in the Event Monitor. Is there any other location you'd like to use customized icons?
Anywhere we can choose them now is what I was thinking.
It would be beneficial to have mouseovers for monitored items. If a device goes red it may be that it is down for some time. Management does not want it suspended but DOES want to know what is goin on. The ability to add a mouseover note would eliminate the need to either have a station log or go to our ticketing system and see what is going on.
Were you thinking of mouseovers for the Event Monitor, or for Manage Monitoring?
While running applications event monitor dashboard.
A option would be to have an active message scroller we could update
In an Exchange email server, a store will use up space, then on a regular basis defragment that space. The result is that there is "whitespace" which is still showing up to the OS as used disk space, but Exchange can fill it up with out using additional real disk space.
This is an important item that Exchange administrators must watch on a regular basis.
Please see these posts for additional information:
http://gsexdev.blogspot.com/2008/07/show-exchange-whitespace-retained-it...

I'd like to be able to put this information in a Longitude report.
I've entered this as an enhancement request for a future release. In the meantime, could you use the Application Log in Windows, and track event id 1221, source MSExchange IS Mailbox Store in an Event Report? (Reports >> Event Reports >> Windows Events)
I'd like to be able to use the web GUI to select the managed device, application, component, statistic, instance, and measuredObject to get right to the Statistics History graph. Right now, the only way I know how to get to that graph is to set up a statistic on the Statistics Dashboard and then click the History Button.
I've reverse engineered the call to the history dashboard.
http://:7228/webui/Dashboards/StatisticDashboard/statisticHistoryDashboard.do?chartType=timeseries&application=Windows&component=Disk&statistic=DISK_FREE_SPACE_KB&displayStatisticName=Disk free space kilobytes&managedDevice=MONITOREDSQLSERVERNAME.FQDN.com&instance=defaultInstance&measuredObject=e:&warningValue=&criticalValue=&minYValue=&maxYValue=
This shows Free Disk space in KB for one of the drives on a SQL Server.
I just re-read my post... it seems a little obscure.
I want to be able to select a Statistics History report right from the main gui. Right now I can create a widget, say for CPU Utilization on a server, and monitor that widget in real time. I can also click the History button, and view historical data for that collection in a nice time-series chart and for custom time periods. Sometimes that is more useful to me than the canned reports.
If I could drive right into that historical report by selecting the Managed Device, then the application, then the component, then the statistic, then the object, that would be a wonderful feature.
Hi,
I'd love to see the original time stamps of windows logs quoted in eventlog monitoring.
This has been entered in our database.
I'd love to see SQLServer:Buffer Manager -> Page Life Expectency counter added. This counter tells me how long a 4KB data page lives in memory. It's a great way to see if there's a lot of swapping to and from disk. With high end HBA's and SAN based systems the Buffer Cache Hit Ratio can be skewed by the caches on both the HBA and cache cards in the Filer. Page Life Expectency is a much better indicator of memory pressure.
