Selecting Number Of Machines During Installation
When you are installing longitude it will ask you to specify the number of machines you will be monitoring. The default number is 100. If you plan on monitoring more increase this number. 100 Machines is a 3 gigabyte Database and if you are monitoring more than 100 machines then your database will automatically extend itself by allocating another partition the same size as the initial partition. (In this case 3 gigabytes)
Specifying 330 systems will create an initial DB size of around 10 GB, and each new extent of the DB will be the same as the initial size. This is a good starting value when intending to monitor many systems with several layered applications plus lots of transactions. We rarely see DBs grow to more than 20-30 GB in the first year, even at large sites.
